COMMUNITY
01 | THE BASICS
Start with the essentials.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling martial art built around position, leverage, movement, and problem-solving. In the Intro Course, we break it down into manageable steps so you understand not just what to do, but why.
0 1 –– M O V E
Get comfortable on the mats.
Learn the basic movements, positions, and ways to move safely on the ground.
0 2 –– U N D E R S T A N D
Learn core concepts.
Explore control, posture, distance, escapes, and how techniques connect together.
0 3 –– A P P L Y
Build practical confidence.
Practice with a partner, understand key self-defence principles, and learn at a pace that makes sense.
02 | YOUR LEARNING PATH
A clear path from beginner to practitioner.
You don’t need to know anything before you arrive. We’ll help you build a foundation before you move into the wider timetable and explore more of Jiu Jitsu.
FOUNDATION
Movement & positions
Get familiar with the mat, basic movements, balance, and fundamental positions.
CONTROL
Escapes & defense
Learn how to protect yourself, create space, and work your way out of common positions.
CONCEPTS
Connecting the pieces
Understand the principles behind techniques instead of memorising isolated moves.
NEXT STEP
Keep learning with confidence
Get guidance on which fundamentals or all-level classes are right for you next.
03 | IS IT FOR YOU?
You can start exactly as you are.
Most people begin with the same questions: Will I keep up? Do I need to be in shape? What if I don’t know anyone? These are normal concerns. You’re here to learn and not to prove anything.
04 | GOOD TO KNOW
Questions before your first Intro class?
Here are the things most beginners want to know. If you’re still unsure, contact us and we’ll help you choose the right starting point.
-
No. You can start with your current fitness level. The course is designed to introduce the fundamentals gradually, and you can work at your own pace.
-
Wear comfortable sports clothes. Ideally, choose items without zippers or pockets. If you already own a Jiu Jitsu gi, bring it. Bring sandals or flip-flops to wear when you’re off the mats.
-
Expect a coached warm-up or movement practice, a technique explained and demonstrated by the coach, and time to practise with a partner. You can ask questions throughout.
-
The priority is learning the basics and feeling comfortable. You won’t be expected to know how to spar. Tell the coach that you’re new, and they’ll guide you through what is appropriate for your experience.
-
Most classes are taught in English, with German and Spanish support when needed.
-
Contact us first. We’ll answer your questions, explain the programme, and help you find a suitable class or start date. You don’t need to figure it all out on your own.
